Threads of Unity using AI
🏀✨
Hey Hoop Heroes! Guess what?
We have another story to tell you about how we helped Ghadri Babbe Sports Club (GBSC) pull off the ultimate slam dunk for their volunteers at their basketball down in sunny California. Buckle up for a tale where Artificial Intelligenc (AI) meets art, and history gets a colorful upgrade!
Our ask for this one started off simple. They reached out to us to design shirts for their Sevadaars (volunteers) who were graciously donating their time to help this cause for spreading awareness about their culture and religion.
One of the key points for the shirts was that they include infamous martyrs of Punjab, the Shaheedis and that it comes in 3 options. One for the volunteers, one for the organizers so people would know who to find, and finally one for the players who came from around the world to compete 🌎.
While playing around with some ideas, we got images from various sources of the Shaheedis. One thing we at AKG found pretty quickly was that the quality of the photos were not up to par to the standards that shirts should be made with. The prints would look fuzzy and details would be easily lost. We needed to make them larger and clean them up.
So we decided to do something about it. Through the power of AI we upscaled AND colorized, these images turned into digital masterpieces; ready to sprinkle some technicolor magic on the court and in our hearts.
Remembering the Shaheedis as our parents and grandparents remembered them were monumentally important for us. After we shared the new images with GBSC, we got messages from them about how impactful and deep it felt to see the Shaheedi images which were only since then in grayscale format.
Time was crunching down and deadlines needed to be made, so we turned our heads to editing the designs and making the best shirts we could as quick as possible. The final designs turned out to be the grayscaled version of our colorized photos (some of the original photos were in sepia) due to printing constraints from their manufacturer. We offered 3 versions of the design after we decided on the elements GBSC wanted.
But we wanted more.
We went through more iterations and came down to the final 3 design choices integrated Punjab or a basketball and we had GBSC decide which one they wanted to go with.
In the end, we got the design just right for them and they had a monumental 1st basketball tournament with that weight off their chests.
We thank GBSC for the opportunity to be able to work with them and hope for more opportunities in the future!
